Newsletter October 2011

QUILT SHOW:
Bring it on! Turn on your sewing machine, limber up your fingers, fire up the iron, and FINISH that great quilt for the 2011- 20th Country Quilt Show. Sign-up sheets went around at the September meeting; if you’ll be available for the Nov. 7th show we need your help! Enter on line or by mail, just make sure that you DO enter.

COUNTRY STORE/BOUTIQUE:
Calling all crafters, bakers, & cookie makers: we need you! The continued success of the Quilt Show and Country Store are in OUR hands. If everyone donates a few items, we all look great! Sign up now, please.

BINDING DEMO/WORKSHOP:
Audrey plans to de-mystify bindings for us in October.
If you’d like to sew along, find the list of what to bring at the end of the newsletter.

TRADITIONAL BLOCKS W/ A NEW TWIST:
Jan and Linda continue to come up with great ideas that we can use and adapt in our future quilts. We are always thankful for the fact that they like to share!

BORDERS II WORKSHOP:
Fifteen TTB quilters enjoyed a rainy Saturday at the Germantown library with Jan Krueger’s Borders II work-shop. We played with fabric to create 12 different border techniques- some that we’ve tried before, and others we used in totally different and unique ways. It was a lot of fun!! Workshop participants should bring their work to show and tell in October!

GOT THREAD?:
Any quilter with excess thread (all of us) can donate those extra spools to our Tanzanian connection, Sue Werner. Sue and her friends will be teaching African women to sew; our surplus will be going to a fantastic cause. This may be the start of a great business for these women.

2012 ELECTIONS COMING UP:
We need fresh ideas & new faces, please consider donating a little of your precious time to the guild. Positions open for 2012:
>Moderator: be a good listener, keep things moving.
>Assistant Moderator: back up and 2013 moderator
>Newsletter: w/ template, writing, use computer
>Committees: come up with new ideas to fast-forward our enthusiasm.
>Members: always needed and welcome
OCTOBER HOSTESSES Sylvia, Norma, Colleen Please remember that hostesses are responsible for taking out the garbage at the end of the meeting.
November: Helen L., Eunice G., Pam J.

BLOCK OF THE MONTHEunice was the winner of the Thanksgiving theme blocks- we are thankful for the years that we have been able to share quilting memories with her!!
Eunice’s choice for the October BOM is a 12 ½” block with a Christmas theme. By that time, she hopes to be living in sunny Florida. Our best wishes to Eunice and her family.

BIRTHDAY BLOCKS:Both Pat D. and Colleen are awaiting their October birthday blocks. Pat gave us a pattern for a sailboat, and Colleen has asked for a pieced tea cup. Lola’s block for December is the Antique Tile- done scrappy, while Eunice’s Diamond is also a scrappy block.
What will your block be for 2012??

BROWN BAG EXCHANGE Your time is almost UP!! You have approximately two months to finish your gift quilt before the December 14th Christmas Dinner. Get crackin’…

MUSEUM OF QUILTS AND FIBER ARTS:

QUILTS FOR KATHY HOSPICE & OTHERS:
The “ORPHANAGE” is filling up rapidly. Your orphan blocks are being transformed into wonderful quilts and lap covers that we will share with area residents in facilities around Washington County. At the present time, there are close to 20 projects that we can showcase at the November Quilt Show. How’s that for teamwork? And remember…your orphan blocks could be someone’s inspiration. **Mary D. has created stitched labels to sew on these quilts.
